I live in MN and the winters are very cold. I have a couple of older trucks and batteries dying in the cold are a big issue. I have a 2002 Explorer that died in my driveway last January. I tried to jump it multiple times, used a trickle carger, and another battery jumper with zero success. I tried to start it multiple times both in winter and middle of summer. Everything failed. All that said, I read about the NOCO boost starters and decided to try one, just to get the Explorer sold and out of my driveway. The battery was completely dead. At first the NOCO didn't recognize the battery because it was so dead.I used the Manual overide turned over and started right away. Literally I am amazed. This NOCO is small and works awesome. Definitely worth the money...literally saved me money. Now I have a very dependable jump starter for the very cold winter. I am very satisfied. I never write reviews, but this NOCO deserved it.
Years ago, a co worker nearly lost her eyesight, when the battery she was jumping exploded- spraying battery acid in her face. I have had a fear of that happening to me, when the cables spark- as a result, I have to get someone to jump it for me, or call a tow truck. When I used the NOCO40 to jump my dead battery, there were no sparks when I attached the cables- I was able to jump start it right away, without anyone helping me... and I arrived on time for my Drs appointment! When I called my car ins co about getting a jump start a few months ago, the man sent to help me used a NOCO Boost- he said it would start the battery right away, and it did. I bought one, and it paid for itself the first time I used it! Missing a Drs appointment when I'm sick, and having to reschedule means I can't get the help I need... putting me at risk of getting worse. But being out in the summer heat while running a fever & dealing with a dead battery- that can be dangerous. A fever can go much higher, resulting in heat exhaustion or even heat stroke...Having a way to start a dead battery by myself, that sets my mind at ease! There are other bonuses as well:~I can easily help a neighbor right away, if they run into problems. ~Hurricanes are a way of life where I live... I can use the NOCO to keep my phone charged, even if we don't have power for several days, or even a week (I have asolar charger that can charge the NOCO during the day).
Holy batman, is this battery overpacked while shipping. Here's the nesting: Ad-filled Amazon shipping box (Noco brown box ( Noco plastic film wrap ( Noco card stock sleeve (Noco hard corrugated box ( Noco styrofoam (Noco cloth bag )))))(and I had NOT selected 'ship in amazon packaging' during checkout)Anyway, the actual battery works quite well. Got it for $71 w/taxes new. It has helped charge up a couple Prii in a pinch. One Prius incident was fully dead that their auto-detect didn't trigger, but manual override was easy and instant. Another Prius instance was useful in the middle of the night, streetside, with instant power on.Flashlight hasn't been that useful yet due to phone flashlights being great enough.Bundled MicroUSB cable comes with RF shielding which is rare for a cable. Though it charges from any spec MicroUSB cable anyway.
